The discipline and respect initiative for schools free of violence

As part of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution's participation in the discipline and respect initiative for schools free of violence, organised by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the Palestinian Center held a series of educational sessions within the activities of the child protection teams project at Bureij preparatory girls' school, which began on 1/11/2010 and continued until 5/1/2011. The sessions reached eighty women among the mothers of the school's pupils. Mr. Atiya Abu Hajar, the Centre's course trainer in the Middle area, confirmed that the aim of holding the educational sessions is to raise parents' awareness towards their children and their understanding of the psychological and behavioural problems their children face and of the sound ways of addressing them, in addition to standing beside the school and helping it to address low pupil attainment. The sessions covered many subjects relating to the pupils, such as low academic attainment, children's psychological needs, behavioural problems, the psychological pressures children face, adolescence and its problems, and how parents and children should behave at exam time, in addition to a dedicated workshop on human rights held on International Human Rights Day, 11/12.
