Conflict Resolution Center concludes a course to develop the police in dealing with violence cases in Nablus governorate

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, within the project "Towards a society free of violence against women", concluded a training course entitled "The skills of police officers in dealing with cases of domestic violence", with the participation of 20 members of the Palestinian police, comprising 25 training hours over 5 days in the training hall at the Conflict Resolution Center in Nablus, attended by the director of the Centre's Nablus branch, Ahmed Abu Ayyash, the deputy chief of the Nablus governorate police, Lieutenant Colonel Yasser Abu Hanana, and a number of police commanders.

At the start of the closing ceremony, Abu Ayyash praised the continuing cooperation between the Centre and the police stations in working towards a safe environment for all members of Palestinian society and the determination to achieve protection and safety. He explained that the Centre carries out the project "Towards a society free of violence against women" with funding from the Norwegian People's Aid programme (NPA), to increase awareness among women subjected to violence and their families of their rights and to provide them with psychological, social and legal services continuously and permanently.

For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Abu Hanana spoke of how the coming period will see the development of cooperation with civil society organisations, foremost the Conflict Resolution Center. He stressed that the police staff taking part in the training will work to apply what they learned in practice and swiftly in dealing with citizens to resolve family disputes, particularly cases of violence.

It is worth noting that the Conflict Resolution Center delivers this training course for those charged with law enforcement in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and that it addressed the arts of dealing with women subjected to violence from the psychological standpoint, police methods of dealing with them and referral mechanisms, in addition to discussing the law of procedure and personal status.
