Conflict Resolution Center joins the orphans of the Al-Amal Institute with smiles of hope for the future

Yesterday the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution took part in an initiative for the orphaned children of the Al-Amal Institute entitled "A smile of hope: we challenge the present to draw the future", with the participation of a number of the Centre's coordinators and activity leaders and with 80 children from the institute in Gaza City attending.
For her part, the coordinator of the project for protecting children from sexual exploitation and harassment, Najat Al-Jubeiri, said: "We are joining the children today in this initiative to spread the principles of tolerance, participation and cooperation between orphans and their peers in the local community and to create an atmosphere of joy and happiness for the children." She stressed that the Conflict Resolution Center seeks to strengthen its relations with the management of the Al-Amal Institute for Orphans and to work on training its staff to deal better with orphans.
For her part, the coordinator of the child protection teams project in Gaza, Ola Al-Far, pointed out that the general aim of the initiative is to include the children of the Al-Amal Institute in the wider community through a range of recreational programmes. She noted that through the initiative we focus on helping orphaned children adapt to the environment around them, on spreading smiles and a spirit of fun among the children and on developing positive feelings among the institute's children.
The initiative's items included a number of activities, among them recreational games such as hanging out the washing and passing balls and letters, in addition to a puppet item, a distinctive performance by the Asafir troupe and items of singing, dabke and drawing. At the end of the meeting with the children, a number of gifts were distributed to the children at the institute.
It is noted that the Conflict Resolution Center is concerned with carrying out a number of projects and programmes for children and with strengthening the role of childhood in the country's governorates in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, among these projects the project for protecting children from sexual exploitation and harassment and the child protection teams project.
