Conflict Resolution Center signs the agreement of the project for supporting and empowering women victims of violence

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution signed the agreement to carry out the project "Supporting and empowering women victims of violence" with the Norwegian People's Aid office (NPA), in the presence of Mr. Khaled Zidan, chairman of the board, Saeed Al-Muqadama, director of the Centre, Iyad Abu Hjair, director of the Gaza branch, and Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, the Centre's projects coordinator, while from the Norwegian aid office there attended Mr. Kjetil Ostnor, regional director of the Norwegian People's Aid office, Reem Al-Wehaidi, women's projects coordinator, and Youssef Al-Nabaheen, financial director.
It should be noted that this project comes as a continuation of the joint work between the two sides in the field of combating violence against women for the fifth year running. During the signing ceremony, Al-Muqadama stressed the importance of the role Norwegian People's Aid plays in supporting Palestinian civil organisations and strengthening their role, particularly amid the difficult conditions our Palestinian people are living through, especially as it provides support to various sectors of Palestinian society.
He also noted the project's importance in building the capacities of Palestinian civil organisations, explaining that the project began to be carried out at the start of 2007 with the aim of providing psychological, social and legal support to women victims of violence in the Gaza and West Bank governorates, and here it continues for the fifth year running after achieving many successes that have helped to ease the suffering of many abused women. Mr. Zidan also offered his deep thanks to Norwegian People's Aid for its continuous support for the Centre and its concern with community issues, particularly the issue of violence against women.
For his part, Ostnor thanked the Centre's team, stressing the importance of the role the Palestinian Center plays in addressing women's issues, particularly in directly targeting women's causes in society and in the new ways of following up these cases through reconciliation figures and social support for abused women. For his part, Al-Nabaheen thanked the Centre's staff for the efforts they have made over four years and for the results they have achieved in providing services to the target groups. Al-Wehaidi also stressed the importance of partnership with Palestinian organisations and of developing mechanisms to ensure services are provided to the community in the best possible way.
Al-Tahrawi noted that the project "Combating violence against women" comes as a continuation of the effort made over the past four years in providing social, legal and psychological services to abused women. He explained that this year the project is working to complete the circle of targeting in order to eliminate violence against women, through the support and advocacy campaigns the project seeks to carry out in coordination with the international and local organisations working in this field, which aim at building a strategic vision offering clear and effective mechanisms that serve abused women in line with local and international legislation. He stressed that these campaigns come on the basis of what has been carried out in past years, in which the project was able to reach more than 3,800 women in the Gaza and West Bank governorates, providing many legal, psychological and social services, in addition to providing family meeting point services to more than 300 Palestinian families.
At the end of the meeting, the visiting delegation made a field visit to the Centre's departments and met their staff.
