One homeland for one people. The brush speaks more eloquently than the pen. A drawing exhibition for reconciliation and civil peace. Nablus: within the project "Women for civil peace", which aims at raising the political and social awareness of the Palestinian people, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution put on a drawing exhibition embodying the Palestinian people's concepts and attitudes towards unity and civil peace, through drawings made by students of the Faculty of Fine Arts. On Sunday 5/12/2010, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts at An-Najah National University, opened the art exhibition entitled "One homeland for one people", within the activities and events of the "Women for civil peace" programme. The exhibition was opened by Mr. Ahmed Abu Ayyash, director of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in the presence of the head of the fine arts department, Kamal Zidan, the coordinator of workshops, extracurricular events and exhibitions at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ahmed Al-Hajj Hamad, a number of the faculty's teaching staff and a gathering of university students. The exhibition, held in the courtyard of the Faculty of Fine Arts on the new campus, included paintings made by around ten first-year students at the Faculty of Fine Arts. The director of the Palestinian Center, Mr. Ahmed Abu Ayyash, stated that the idea of the exhibition came to provide an opportunity for the students of An-Najah National University, Faculty of Fine Arts, to express their thoughts on national unity and civil peace, given that drawing may be more eloquent than the pen in expression, since drawings are able to stir emotions, senses and positive feelings towards national unity, and are also able to address the mind and stir logical and rational thought about the dangers of division and fragmentation and the necessity of unity and civil peace. Finally, the project coordinator, Hanadi Al-Qaddoumi, mentioned that the exhibition's experience aims at strengthening the students' role and highlighting the importance of involving them in embodying cohesion and national unity. It is noted that the exhibition continues until the evening of Thursday 9/12/2010.
