The project for providing legal assistance to women holds a workshop on land ownership law in the Gaza Strip

The project for providing legal assistance at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held an awareness workshop in the field of the types of land in the Gaza Strip, with the participation of thirty family counsellors from the sharia courts and staff from a number of the Centre's projects.

The coordinator of the project for providing legal assistance to women in need, Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, noted that this workshop comes within a series of workshops in cooperation with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) with the aim of building the capacities of those working in the field of defending women's rights in Palestine. He praised the importance of the Conflict Resolution Center's cooperation with every body calling for support for women's rights in Arab societies and particularly in the Palestinian territories.

For her part, the trainer Mona Abdel Aziz, from the Norwegian Refugee Council, addressed the importance of land ownership and its types, in addition to the difficulties facing citizens in owning land because of the multiplicity of laws applied to it in the Gaza Strip, particularly in cases of proving ownership for those harmed by the war the occupation waged on Gaza in 2008.

Abdel Aziz set out the difficulties that stand in the way of proving ownership in cases where ownership has not been transferred at the land registry, the registration procedures and obtaining registration certificates from the land registry, and also spoke about the procedures for transferring ownership in cases of inheritance.

For their part, the participants put forward a set of questions about land ownership in the Gaza Strip and the forms of support that must be provided to serve the Palestinian citizen during the processes of registering and transferring land ownership.

It is noted that this workshop comes as part of a series of workshops the project will carry out in the coming stage with the aim of increasing citizens' awareness of the issues of ownership and inheritance.
