Gaza, Publication and Information Unit:
The project for supporting women victims of violence, within its activities at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, carried out a set of training meetings on the subjects of "mediation and arbitration" at Beit Hanoun secondary school for girls in the north of the Gaza Strip, over three days.
Lawyer Mohammed Abu Salem took part in carrying out the training meetings, and during his training he spoke about mediation and its definitions, the role of the mediator, the skills the mediator enjoys and the conditions that must be met in the mediator, as well as the definition of arbitration, the conditions that must be met in arbitration, the characteristics of the arbitrator and the persons qualified for arbitration.
Lawyer Abu Salem noted that these training courses come in the framework of the continuing engagement of the project for supporting women victims of violence with the local community and of addressing several segments of society, including the segment of students at schools and universities, stressing that the concepts of mediation and arbitration in legal practice and legal cases are among the most important means and concepts that must be made known to the citizen so that the application of the law may be generalised in society.
During the training meetings, a group of the students raised questions and queries about a number of legal issues and terms, which met with full answers that helped them form a clear picture of the concepts raised during the training.
