Building the capacity of staff from the seven partner municipalities on gender mainstreaming in municipal work
Within the Marginalised Local Communities Development Project in partnership with seven municipalities in the central and southern Gaza Strip (Al-Bureij, Al-Qarara, New Abasan, Khuza'a, Al-Shoka, Al-Nasr and Rafah), implemented through the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF) with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German development agency GIZ.
On Thursday 9 July 2020, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution concluded a training course for around 35 staff members of the partner municipalities. Mr. Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, the Centre's projects manager, delivered the training on institutionalising gender, covering the following topics: basic concepts of gender, participation and gender mainstreaming policies, and gender mainstreaming in municipal work. Participants included project and planning coordinators, members of municipal councils, legal advisers and municipal staff from the public relations and human resources departments.
It is worth noting that this training falls under Task 3: identifying gender-responsive activities and interventions, under which a gender audit study was conducted in the partner municipalities, and its first draft was presented to the partner municipalities in order to formulate gender-responsive intervention plans.
