The Palestinian Center hosts the meeting of the Legal Aid Providers Network

The Palestinian Center today hosted the meeting of the Legal Aid Providers Network, formed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), attended by the representative of the UNDP Rule of Law Programme and representatives of the partner organisations in the group. At the start of the meeting Mr. Younis Al-Tahrawi, coordinator of the Istijaba project, reviewed the achievements on the question of overcrowding in police lock-ups and prisons that the Palestinian Center has secured within the Istijaba project, represented in the legal unit's efforts to set up a committee for speedy trials made up of the public prosecution, the judiciary and the prisons administration. He was followed by Dr. Tareq Al-Deirawi, who spoke about the legal basis of Article 48 of the Palestinian penal code, after which the partners gave interventions on the latest achievements in their own organisations. Finally, a date was set for the next legal meeting. The Istijaba project is "Towards a more responsive justice system in the Gaza Strip", funded by UNDP, which aims to improve the justice system in the Gaza Strip so as to make it more responsive.
