The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution joins the women of Palestine on International Women's Day

On Monday the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution and the team of the project "Towards a society free of violence", with a number of the Centre's volunteers, distributed flowers to working women at their places of work, in support of them and in appreciation of their going out to work on this day, which is a feast day for working women.
Mr. Ahmed Abu Ayyash, director of the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, welcomed and praised this event honouring women in their workplaces, given that the Conflict Resolution Center is a centre that works to support and protect women, because a woman has dignity and rights.
The events began with radio interviews: the specialist Wurud Yassin on Radio Kufiya, speaking about the Centre's role in protecting and supporting Palestinian women, and lawyer Sahar Abu Salha on Radio Nagham, speaking about the rights of working women and the history of marking International Women's Day.
The team of the project "Towards a society free of violence", represented by lawyer Sahar Abu Salha and the specialist Wurud Yassin together with a number of the Centre's volunteers and trainees, then distributed flowers and chocolates to working women in the city of Nablus. During the distribution, views on the event varied: one woman working in a clothes shop thanked the Centre for this initiative, adding that it was the first time she had been honoured on this occasion in nearly thirteen years.
On another note, some of the women workers could not express their joy at being honoured and began to cry. In addition, some shop owners had comments on women working, one of them saying that "a woman is like a man on this day, given that her working is a matter of equality between the sexes".
Views and opinions otherwise varied, with thanks to the Centre for this effective and distinctive initiative on International Women's Day.
