Opening of a training course for the specialists working in the offices of the Relief and Social Services Programme

Today the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution opened a training course for the specialists working in the offices of the Relief and Social Services Programme of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the governorates of the Gaza Strip, within the events of the advocacy campaign of the project "Towards a society free of violence", funded by Norwegian People's Aid.
Mr. Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, projects coordinator at the Centre, welcomed the 21 specialists taking part in the course, then spoke about the concept of conflict, its characteristics, causes and types and how to deal with it, strategies for settling disputes and mechanisms for resolving them, methods of conflict management and crisis management, and how we deal with crises before, during and after they occur.

He pointed out that the aim of the training is to create a safe environment free of violence, in addition to enabling the participants to manage crises and conflicts and resolve internal and external disputes, to recognise their sources, to raise their skills in the ways of dealing with crises and conflicts, and to perceive their early signs before they arise and work to resolve them before they escalate.

It is worth noting that the course will run over four days, comprising 20 training hours, and that its programme includes introducing the participants to conflict and crisis management skills, the frameworks of alternative dispute resolution and the mechanisms of intervention (mediation and arbitration), in addition to analysing the problem and preparing an intervention plan.
