Conflict Resolution Center celebrates the conclusion of the project to improve Palestinian society's awareness of gender issues in Gaza

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in partnership with the Aisha Association for the Protection of Women and the Wifaq Association for the Care of Women and Children, celebrated last Thursday the conclusion of the project to improve Palestinian society's awareness of and ability to address issues of equality between the sexes, attended by representatives of civil society organisations and by the women and children who benefited from the project.
In the Conflict Resolution Center's address at the ceremony, held at the Grand Palace Hotel in Gaza, the Centre's projects coordinator, Abdel Moneim Al-Tahrawi, valued the efforts made by the field and supervisory team during the project's work, in addition to the achievement secured in reaching those subjected to violence and in easing the psychological and social harm to members of the local community.
On the importance of funding the project, the programme director at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), Heba Al-Zayan, spoke about activating a range of continuing programmes to combat violence against women and providing programmes and services that help raise community awareness, as well as supporting the efforts of coalitions and advocacy to engage decision-makers in confronting violence against women.
For his part, the chair of the board of the Aisha Association, Elias Al-Jalda, expressed his pleasure at the continuing efforts the project has been able to achieve in reaching a range of groups in the local community and in intensifying educational meetings in schools and associations in order to increase awareness and education among the Palestinian public.
On the project's achievements in the southern governorates, the coordinator of the Wifaq Association, Hazem Abu Taha, pointed out that his association was able to carry out a range of activities and programmes to root the concept of safety and to create a distinctive popular base for learning about women's issues in Rafah governorate, so that this is reflected positively in women, their families and their community and in facing all the difficult circumstances.
The closing ceremony included a number of artistic items by the Anqa troupe for folk arts, as well as the recitation of a set of poems about women, men and the homeland by the Palestinian poet Ilham Abu Zaher, a folklore performance and the screening of a video entitled "The project's echo", conveying the main experiences and achievements secured during the project.
