Two wives, and I am the third
There is a kind of violence that some believe is slight and does no harm, but which is in truth more affecting and has a greater impact on the soul than any other, namely verbal violence, which wounds the heart and reaches the depths and leaves negative effects such as a lack of self-confidence and a lack of confidence in one's own abilities, in addition to the stripping away of rights and the deprivation of personal freedom, making a woman like a bird in a cage, stifled and shackled. This is what Mrs. (A.), aged 27, was suffering from. Love knocked at her door and she chose the companion of the road she had been waiting for, and she began to dream of the happy life every girl wishes for. The dream was complete and she married the person she loved, even though he was married to two women, and she lived with him two of the most beautiful months of her life. But she did not enjoy this happiness for long, after her husband disturbed the calm of their beautiful life by bringing his other wife to live with her. From here the tragedy and the suffering began, and the jealousy that burns in hearts and is never put out. So she went to her father's house while pregnant, unable to bear the situation, and stayed with her family through the pregnancy and after the birth until the child turned one. Her husband then divorced her because she had claimed her right to housing. Two years later she turned to the Centre to ask for help and to return to her husband, so we provided psychological, social, legal and counselling support, and called the husband in to speak with him, and gave them some skills and methods for dealing with married life. Through this the bird returned to her home, content and satisfied with her life.
