Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution…
Within the events of the project for supporting and empowering women funded by the office of Norwegian People's Aid, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution carries out a series of radio episodes within the programme (Woman and society). The first episode discussed the crime of killing on the grounds of family honour, and the Centre hosted the mufti of Hebron governorate, Sheikh Mohammed Maher Masouda, who set out the sharia rulings and explained the punishments from the point of view of religion and sharia. Captain Ahmed Al-Atawna also spoke on this subject, showing the role of the police and the law in combating this crime and the extent of its spread in Hebron governorate. The second episode of this series addressed psychological disorders and their effects on the violence practised against women, and the Centre hosted in this episode Dr. Asaad Abu Ghalyoun, psychiatry specialist, speaking about the disorders and their effects on women from a medical and psychological angle. The specialist Sahar Al-Qawasmi also spoke on this subject from a social and psychological point of view and about its repercussions on the abused woman and on society. The third episode of the series discussed the repercussions of the Israeli violence practised against women, the Centre hosting in this episode the specialist Amal Al-Jabaa, director of the Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling, Hebron branch, and the specialist Sanaa Zamaara, specialist and supervisor at the centre for treating and rehabilitating victims of torture. They spoke about the effects and practices of Israeli violence and its relation to and effects on women and society's view of it. The fourth episode addressed the role of education in violence against women, with the director of education, Mrs. Nisreen Amro, and the psychologist Mrs. Maysoun Al-Sharif speaking.
The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution certainly has many subjects and episodes that will be presented, in order to educate and spread awareness and to make use of the media side in spreading part of the awareness and forming a culture of a high level, equally with field counselling and awareness-raising through workshops and the provision of free services
