The Centre and the Ministry of National Economy conclude the training course for the ministry's monitoring and inspection teams and representatives of consumer protection associations
In the light of the joint cooperation between the Ministry of National Economy and the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, the first of its kind, and within the project "Active citizenship in activating consumer protection procedures", funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the Civil Society Participation Programme.
The Palestinian Center concluded the training course for the monitoring and inspection teams at the consumer protection department of the Ministry of National Economy and for representatives of consumer protection associations from the country's various governorates, comprising 25 training hours at a rate of 5 hours over 5 consecutive days at the Rocky Hotel in Ramallah.
The training course covered several headings and subjects relating to leadership and management skills, institutional work and working within networks. It also addressed the consumer protection law and its implementing regulations, international systems of monitoring and inspection, and the importance of oversight concepts based on the consumer protection law
At the end of the training programme, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution expressed its thanks to the Ministry of National Economy for its cooperation and for providing facilities to carry out the programme. The director of the Palestinian Center, Ahmed Abu Ayyash, spoke about the importance of the training programme and the extent to which it activates the oversight role and work within a single body aimed at protecting the Palestinian consumer. The Centre's director also pointed out that there is a set of events and activities aimed at raising consumers' awareness of their rights, as well as a national plan to be implemented with all the parties concerned with consumer protection.
The consumer protection department, through its director general Mr. Omar Kabha, praised the cooperation with the Palestinian Center and valued the Centre's role, its support and its cooperation in developing working procedures aimed at raising the efficiency of the oversight system for the teams working in consumer protection.
At the end of the training course, the director of the Palestinian Center and the director of the consumer protection department handed out graduation certificates to the trainees, who numbered 29 men and women.
