The project "Towards a society free of violence against women" meets the lobbying and advocacy campaign

The project "Towards a society free of violence against women" at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution met the team of the lobbying and advocacy campaign for securing Palestinian women's rights, as a continuation of the efforts made on lobbying and advocacy for 2011. The meeting was held at the Conflict Resolution Center's office in Ramallah governorate and attended by representatives of government ministries, public figures and international organisations in the West Bank.

Taking part in the meeting on behalf of the Conflict Resolution Center were the director of the Centre's branch in Nablus governorate, Ahmed Abu Ayyash, and the team of the project "Towards a society free of violence against women" in Nablus and Hebron, attended by Reem Al-Wheidi, projects coordinator at the Norwegian People's Aid programme (NPA).

During the meeting, the coordinator of the project "Towards a society free of violence against women" in Nablus governorate, Nisreen Zalmout, stressed that the general aim of these meetings is to discuss the future work plan of the lobbying and advocacy campaign and to increase coordination with all community organisations and centres in order to support women. She pointed out that these efforts will help ease the injustice against women and work towards amending a number of laws that are unjust to women subjected to violence within society, as she put it.

The participants recommended the need to hold more awareness and educational workshops with decision-makers in all the governorates so as to influence them within Palestinian towns and villages, as well as to coordinate with the legal department at the president's office and to seek to present the penal code to the parliamentary movements and to meet members of the Legislative Council.
