The project "Stronger oversight, better justice" visits Ansar Central Prison

Within the project "Stronger oversight, better justice", carried out by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, the head of the legal unit at the Conflict Resolution Center, Younis Al-Tahrawi, and the coordinator of the project "Stronger oversight, better justice", Anwar Azzam, visited Ansar Central Prison in Gaza City, where they were received by the prison director, Lieutenant Colonel Sameh Hamdan.
At the start of the meeting, the legal situation of prisoners was discussed, in addition to developing the ways of coordinating and communicating on supporting prisoners in need of legal intervention and correcting their legal situation.

Al-Tahrawi explained that the prisoners will be followed up through the Centre dedicating regular visits to the prison, adding: "It was agreed with the prison management to hold workshops and awareness sessions for the prisoners."

For his part, the director of Ansar prison valued the continuing efforts of the Conflict Resolution Center in supporting prisoners and providing them with psychological and legal services, calling for intensifying the frameworks of communication and coordination in the coming period and for increasing the number of activities and events carried out with prisoners in order to improve their behaviour within Palestinian society.

It is noted that the project "Stronger oversight, better justice" carries out its activities and programmes in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the aim of improving the situation of justice in the Gaza Strip by strengthening oversight of the justice facilities.
