Conflict Resolution concludes a training course for lawyers and media professionals

The project "Stronger oversight, better justice" at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution concluded a training course entitled "Mechanisms for monitoring the justice facilities", in which 20 lawyers and media professionals took part, comprising 20 training hours.
The course, which ran for five consecutive days at the Centre's premises in Gaza City, was opened on its first day by the project coordinator, Anwar Azzam, who stressed that "training in the mechanisms for monitoring the justice facilities is a step on the thousand-mile road towards achieving comprehensive justice". He added that this course amounts to providing legal aid to vulnerable groups, achieving the rule of law in society and ensuring that juveniles are given their rights, in addition to taking account of their psychological circumstances and correcting their behaviour with the help of psychologists and social workers, in order to rehabilitate them and integrate them into society to build and contribute.

The training addressed the following topics: the law on reform centres and prisoners' rights; writing reports and articles and critical media thinking; the code of criminal procedure and the Basic Law; in addition to practical training for the working groups on the mechanism for monitoring the justice facilities.
It is worth noting that field visits will be carried out in the coming period to the reform centres, the regular courts and the police stations, in addition to the Ministry of Justice and the public prosecution, to apply what was learned during the course.
It is noted that the project "Stronger oversight, better justice" carries out its activities in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the aim of improving the situation of justice in the Gaza Strip by strengthening oversight of the justice facilities.
