Conflict Resolution delivers an educational lecture entitled "Women's right to inheritance"

The Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with the Al-Badhan Charitable Society, delivered a legal educational lecture on "Women's rights in inheritance from the standpoint of sharia and the law and according to the Palestinian personal status law", in order to spread a culture of women's rights and set out the rights God has ordained for them. Around 30 women attended the lecture.

Sahar Abu Salha, lawyer of the project "Towards a society free of violence", carried out by the Centre with funding from the Norwegian People's Aid programme, spoke about the importance of the subject of inheritance, which has important social consequences, touching on the grounds of inheritance, the holders of fixed shares and bequests.

During her talk, Abu Salha pointed out that cultural heritage has a negative effect on women's situation, since among some people women do not inherit, which is a violation of their rights set out in Islamic law and in the other revealed laws.

During the lecture the project's lawyer addressed the sharia aspect of dividing an inheritance, and how in some cases a woman's share is greater than a man's, noting the legal procedures followed in the courts and the time within which all such cases are completed.

At the close of the lecture, which drew engagement from the participants, many of them recommended the need to spread awareness and education about their rights and duties on a large scale, particularly in rural areas, and to focus more on the subject of inheritance
