PCDCR Concludes the Project "Towards Community Peace: Gender-Sensitive Mediation"

On Thursday, the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution concluded its community project "Towards Community Peace: Gender-Sensitive Mediation" with a closing ceremony in Nablus Governorate, attended by the Governor of Nablus Ghassan Daghlas, representatives of the Palestinian Police, Lieutenant Colonel Najeh Hashash and Lieutenant Colonel Salam Hajjeh, heads of the popular committees for camp services, representatives of governmental, national and community institutions and of the national factions, as well as the trainees and the community mediation committees.

The Center's director, Mr. Ahmad Abu Ayesh, delivered a speech presenting the project's idea and objectives and its main achievements and outputs, noting that the project responded to an urgent community need in the camps of Nablus Governorate to strengthen peaceful conflict resolution based on dialogue and gender-sensitive community mediation.

Abu Ayesh stressed the importance of partnership with governmental and civil institutions and of continued joint work to support community peace initiatives, promote the values of dialogue and tolerance, and build effective community mediation committees capable of lasting impact.

For his part, the Governor of Nablus Ghassan Daghlas stressed the importance of promoting a culture of civil peace and of establishing dialogue and community mediation as effective tools for resolving conflicts, emphasizing the need for gender sensitivity in mediation to ensure justice and equal participation and strengthen social cohesion and stability.

Daghlas praised the role of the Center and its partners in implementing the project, valuing the efforts made to train and build the capacities of men and women in community mediation, with a positive impact on community peace in Nablus Governorate.

The ceremony included live testimonies from the field by participants and members of the mediation committees, who expressed their aspirations to develop the committees' work and spoke of the project's importance in forming them on professional, gender-sensitive foundations, and of their role in preventing conflicts and promoting dialogue in the camps and the local community.

At the end of the ceremony, the Center graduated all the trainees who took part in the capacity-building training on gender-sensitive mediation, through which the community mediation committees were formed to promote a culture of civil peace.
