Gaza's imams call for strengthening civil peace through the mosque pulpits

The imams of Gaza's mosques called for strengthening the concept of civil peace and spreading the culture of accepting others to which Islam calls, through the mosque pulpits in the Gaza Strip. This came during a workshop held today by the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution with the participation of many mosque imams in the Strip's governorates.

For his part, Mr. Iyad Abu Hjair, deputy director of the Gaza branch, spoke about the Centre's role in strengthening and spreading the concepts of civil peace in society and in supporting national reconciliation efforts, particularly community reconciliation, which requires great effort from mosque preachers and sermon-givers, civil society organisations, mukhtars, young people and women. He also called on mosque imams to intensify their role in guiding and advising citizens through sermons and lessons in the mosques.

Those present stressed the need to join together and stand shoulder to shoulder in order to unite the homeland and strengthen Palestinian identity, and to move away from the tension and party fanaticism that harm Palestinian society.
