The Justice for All project at the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution held workshops entitled "Strengthening the legal capacities of those charged with law enforcement" at six police stations in Gaza governorate, in coordination with the General Directorate of Training at the Palestinian Ministry of Interior and National Security, with the participation of 88 security and police officers.
In this framework, the assistant coordinator of the Justice for All project, lawyer Anwar Azzam, explained that the new workshops for a number of police officers at their stations in Gaza governorate will strengthen their legal capacities in dealing with citizens on the basis of the sound provisions of the law. He pointed to the workshops' contribution to developing the professional performance of the Palestinian police in facing challenges and difficulties, in order to work on strengthening the concept of the rule of law and reaching justice in society.
Lawyer Azzam added: "The workshops are delivered by a number of trained police officers who previously received an intensive training course in the concepts of law and justice at the Conflict Resolution Center's premises in the Gaza and Middle governorates, and they convey to their colleagues the main new concepts and terms for police officers." He explained that the coming period will see more meetings and training courses delivered to a number of groups in the local community, such as reconciliation figures and youth groups.
For his part, Major Jalal Suwailem, a coordinator at the General Directorate of Training at the Ministry of Interior, praised the sound conduct of the workshops as planned between the Conflict Resolution Center and the training directorate. He expressed their wish for cooperation to continue in order to develop the basic structure for police officers and to develop their work in coordinating and communicating with the various groups of the Palestinian people in the country's governorates.
It is worth noting that the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution carries out the Justice for All project in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the aim of strengthening the principles and concepts of the rule of law and the application of justice, by carrying out a number of activities and events for a range of groups closely connected with justice.
